The Vilsandi Lighthouse is the westernmost lighthouse in Estonia, located on the island of Vilsandi in Saaremaa Municipality. The white stone tower, complete with a lantern room and balcony, stands 37 meters tall. To reach the balcony at the top, one must climb no more and no less than 160 steps.
What to Do on Vilsandi?
- Go Hiking – Vilsandi offers two hiking trails of different lengths (6 km and 8 km), where you can explore the island’s diverse nature. The trails also offer beautiful views of the oldest part of the national park – the Vaika Islands.
- Birdwatching – Vilsandi Island is an excellent location for birdwatching. The national park is an important nesting, migration, and wintering area for birds. A total of 247 bird species have been recorded in the area, with 114 of them nesting on the island.
- Enjoy the Beauty of Orchids – Vilsandi National Park is home to 32 different species of orchids, each more beautiful than the last.
- Learn About Grey Seals – Many of the islets in Vilsandi National Park are favorite resting spots for grey seals. You can plan a seal-watching tour HERE.

The best option is to bring your own food and enjoy a lovely picnic on the island. The closest grocery store to Papissaare Harbour is located in Kihelkonna.
