During the summer, locals often open their gardens and yards for visitors to admire. Whether it’s to host a home café or to showcase their daily activities, it’s a wonderful opportunity to take a peek into the yards of real Saaremaa residents.
Kuressaare Street Festival Garage Sale
On May 24-25, where "One man's old is another man's new." If you have something at home that you no longer need, there's definitely someone on the other side of the town who is missing just that item. During the last weekend of May, all buyers and sellers will gather at various sale locations across Kuressaare to give a new life to the items that have been sitting unused at home.
Kihelkonna Open Yards
On June 22, everyone is welcome to take part in a special event in the village of Kihelkonna – Kihelkonna Open Yards! Just before Midsummer’s Day, locals open their home yards to visitors, offering a chance to enjoy the beauty of the area, local handicrafts, and homemade treats.
Open Farm Days
On July 12–13, the eleventh nationwide Open Farm Days will take place. You are invited to visit both large farms and smaller homesteads, meet fascinating animals and plants, explore impressive agricultural machinery, enjoy real farm food, join tours, take part in workshops, and much more. Each farm offers its own program showcasing the unique features of their farm.
Muhu Café Day
From July 25–27, starting at 10:00 AM, both year-round and summer residents of Muhu will transform their home gardens or village squares into home cafés for one weekend. In addition to private yards, museums, harbors, studios, various centers, and institutions will also take part. Alongside cakes and pies, you’ll surely find some cafés serving traditional apurokka as well.
Nasva Plaice Café Day
On July 26 from 12:00 to 17:00, in the old fishing village of Nasva, the gates of several home gardens will open for one day to welcome guests with delicious homemade snacks and dishes. Fish will certainly be on the menu — found in soups, pies, fried, or dried. True to the spirit of a fishing village, visitors can even travel from one café to another by river boat taxi.
Karja Parish Home Café Day
On July 26–27, the home cafés of Karja Parish will open their doors for two full days. It's a chance to enjoy good food and drinks along with great company.
Full Speed in Orissaare!
On July 12–13, the people of Orissaare have also planned to transform their home yards into cafés, and this will be the several times they’ve done so. In addition to homemade pastries and delicious bites, you can find musical interludes, second-hand sales corners, and many other exciting things at the yard cafés.
Laimjala Area Café Day
On August 9, starting at 10:00 AM, the people of the Laimjala area have decided to organize a Home Café Day in their region. Preparations are currently in full swing, with the best recipes being selected and tested.
Saaremaa Food Festival: Visit Villages
On September 13, from 12:00 to 18:00, as part of the Saaremaa Food Festival, the Village to Village event invites you to visit various villages in Saare County, opening their community centers, village halls, village squares, or other significant places for you. The goal of the open village doors is to introduce the stories of Saare County communities, their gathering places, history, and their current state. Each location is unique and worth exploring!
Saaremaa Food Festival: Apple Cafes Day
On September 14, when the apples on the trees are ripening and the thought of what to do with the harvest arises, the Saaremaa Food Festival offers the opportunity to turn a lovely Sunday into something exciting. On this day, Kuressaare will come alive, as various yards and areas will host the Apple Cafés.
