St. John's Church in Saare County is one of the few baroque country churches built in Estonia before the Great Northern War. It was named after the patriarch of Alexandria, St. John the Merciful, who was the protector of the poor and the sick. The church building was completed around 1703 and rebuilt in 1840. The Late Classicist west tower was completed as late as in 1842. The keystone, which was removed when the tower was being built, was placed in the rock garden of the church. In the church, there is a four-register organ, which still works, although it was built as early as in 1890. Today, the owner and user of the church is the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John of Saare County.

One of the pronunciation features of the Saaremaa dialect is the lack of the 'õ' vowel. This makes the islanders immediately recognisable. However, pronouncing the letter 'õ' is not a problem for the people of Muhu and a part of the population of Pöide. The border between the vowels 'õ' and 'ö' runs from the north from Orissaare across Pöide to the Kõiguste Bay. The statue greets visitors of Saaremaa immediately after crossing the Väike Strait. The height of the giant 'Ö' is 5 metres. The statue is perfectly visible around the clock as it is covered with reflectors.

This church is thought to have stood in Jämaja since the 13th century, although nothing remains today of the original building. The church we see today, in Historicist style, was constructed in the second half of the 19th century. What makes it special is its proximity to the sea: the subject of its altar painting could only be found in a church where the sounds of the sea are heard through the window. Jämaja cemetery is located a little away from the church, practically on the beach. It is the only cemetery in Estonia this close to the water's edge.

Kuressaare Theatre, which is thought to have been constructed in the early 19th century, has previously played host to the Estonian Society and was also the summer home of the Secret Adviser of St Petersburg. With a history rich in tradition, the building was given a new lease on life in the early 1990s when cultural figures from the island of Saaremaa were once again gripped by the utopian idea of restoring the theatre. And today that's what we have once more - Kuressaare Theatre, in its very own building!

This former sea rescue station, originating from the tsarist era, was completed on the Sjustaka cape by the end of 1876. At around the same time, the Ruhnu lighthouse and a new pastoral building (current schoolhouse) were also completed. During the time of kolkhozes, the sea rescue station was moved from the original location on the Sjustaka cape to the coast, by the Ringsu harbour facilities, the construction of which began in 1958. It was moved in one piece by being pulled on the ice. The building was later used as a shipyard for fishing boats. Nowadays, the sea rescue boathouse is a cultural centre, which organises exhibitions, concerts, theatre performances, seminars, workshops, and courses.

Kiipsaare lighthouse was completed in 1933 and is 26 metres high. Initially, the lighthouse was constructed about 100 m from the coast. However, due to changes in the shoreline, it now stands in seawater. Because of strong storms and waves, the lighthouse that is standing on a steep coast became tilted years ago. Therefore, the lighthouse received the nickname Saaremaa's Leaning Tower of Pisa. However, strong gusts of wind and waves pushed the lighthouse into a more upright position later on. Good to know: As the lighthouse is located on the territory of Vilsandi National Park, it can only be reached on foot. The distance from the car park to the lighthouse is about 4 km, and the lighthouse can only be viewed from the outside.

A boardwalk from the parking lot to the beach through the neighbouring pine forest is a good place for a walk; and the beach's other surrounding forests give visitors the opportunity to pick mushrooms and berries before taking a break at the RMK recreation area's picnic table, information stand, or outhouse.

The original was tossed into the sea by Soviet troops and was never found. A local sculptor from Saaremaa recreated it.

The sculpture, situated in front of the SPA Hotel Meri was created in 2002 by a renowned Estonian sculptor Tauno Kangro. The sculpture depicts Suur Tõll (the Great Tõll), a mythical hero of the island Saaremaa, and his wife Piret. Good to know: According to the Legend, Sõrve peninsula was important to Tõll, as from there he reached the shortest way to the island Ruhnu, where he had his cabbage field. When his wife Piret started to make a fire under the cauldron, then Tõll went through the sea to his cabbage field and came back in half an hour, so that he could hand Piret the cabbages when the water had just started to boil.

In 1646, the Livonian governor-general Gabriel Oxenstierna had a primitive lighthouse – a simple beacon built on a little island located at the tip of Sõrve Peninsula. Autumn storms made it clear that the small island chosen for the beacon was unsuitable and the beacon was relocated to the tip of Sõrve Peninsula. A stone tower was established there in 1770, but it was destroyed during the Second World War. The current cone-shaped lighthouse of monolithic concrete was built in 1960. In the summer, you can also climb to the top of the highest lighthouse on the Baltic Sea. Interesting Fact: The height of Sõrve Lighthouse from its base is 52 metres and it stands 53 metres above sea level.

It is believed that a local pharmacist came up with the idea of building a Kuursaal (resort hall).  Construction took eight months, and it was officially opened on 11 June 1889. In the centre part, the so-called White Hall, housed a restaurant, while the right wing was home to a summer theatre and the left wing was used for a kitchen area and offices. The theatre mostly hosted performances by ensembles from Germany, but Estonian actors started appearing here after World War I. Good to know *In 1989 the kuursaal was named 'Best Building in Soviet Estonia 1988' There are cosy rooms in the guesthouse on the second floor.

Maasi medieval fort-castle was built with the forced labour of islanders. This labour was how the ruling Livonian order punished indigenous inhabitants for the uprising, which had destroyed the order's previous stronghold. The seaside fort-castle was undefeated until it was blown up by the Danes. The 8m walls that survived the destruction have become a landmark. Good to know: On August 11th, 1576, Danish king Frederik II ordered Maasi stronghold destroyed and it has been in ruins ever since.

The windmill was opened to visitors on May 17th, 1980. The predecessor of a windmill is a quern, which was first turned manually, then with water power, and then with wind. The small farm windmills of western Estonia and the islands are rather unique examples of rural architecture; similar features can be noted in Scandinavia and western Finland. Good to know: Although the windmills have lost their economic importance, the Eemu trestle windmill has remained the acknowledged symbol of Muhu, enriching the landscape and bearing witness to the tough work done by our ancestors.

Ööriku Church was completed on the basis of a standard design in 1873, in honour of the Holy Trinity. The limestone five-domed church is in the shape of a Greek cross and built on four arcs. In 1900, the church was expanded and received a three-storey clock tower with a pyramid-shaped roof. The Ööriku Orthodox congregation itself was opened much earlier, in 1846, when it had the name of St. John's congregation. Later, it was re-named as Ööriku congregation. Before the church was completed, services were held in a stone barn in Tagavere farm and in a wooden building in Kavandi village. The Ööriku Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity is in the area of administration of the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church. The Ööriku Holy Trinity congregation uses the church.

A world of stone sheep with a wonderful flower garden on almost three hectares. In this humorous world, there is the Lambakogu with 101 sheep and the pooping sheep of Karala - a local rival to the famous Manneken Pis in Brussels. There is also a sheep's military parade, which has been visited by the generals Põder (Moose) and Karu (Bear) from neighbouring countries. Together with the sheep, they form the neighbourhood support organisation, or NATO. Demonstrators, service personnel, journalist-paparazzo and many other stone-hearted statues can also be found in the area. As the Lambakogu has approved a sheep tax, visitors have to pay it.

The vessel uisk was a symbol of Muhumaa on Väinameri Sea for almost 1,000 years. The vessel was called huisk before, which meant snake or worm. This word was also used to describe the viking ships of Saaremaa, that attacked the territories of the Bishopric of Riga and took part in raids to Scandinavia. The uisk is probably one of the oldest types of sailing ships in Estonia. The revival and rebuilding of the ancient ship started in Koguva port in 2009. During the project, a traditional uisk vessel will be built, which will be 15 metres long and 5.2 metres wide.
